So the last few weeks have been pretty blah apart from the birthdays we had and the celebrations that came with them. But here are three of the artists/bands that have been on my play list along with the ever-present Nerina Pallot. I think it’s my quest to find someone who’s music I love as much as hers but here are some contenders who have kept me entertained and thinking about lots of different things.
Alt-J: Lead singer, Joe Newman’s voice fascinates me. I want to emulate it every time I listen to this band. I can’t help it. The fascination doesn’t stop at the voice. The album, An Awesome Wave is different from anything I have listened to recently. There’s this unique element to their music. Standout tracks: Tessellate, Fitzpleasure, and Dissolve Me.
AlunaGeorge: I love the songs I ‘ve heard from this duo who came second in the Sound of 2013 poll behind Haim. Haim’s one song that I liked was cool but then I heard them sing it live and then i listened to more of their music and were kind of a blah retro back to the 80s thing that wasn’t quite working. However, AlunaGeorge has been on my playlist ever since I found them on Spotify. Can’t wait for the full album Body Music due to be released this July. Standout tracks: Just a Touch, Analyser, and You Know You Like It.
Ben Howard: I know I’m probably late to the Ben Howard party as he just won two Brit Awards this year, one for Best British Breakthrough Act andthe other for Best British Solo Male Artist. Wow. I’m not normally a bandwagoner but I have to say, I like his voice and he’s felt very comfortable on my January-March play list. Standout tracks: Old Pine (this was the first song I heard of his on BBC2 radio), Diamonds, and Empty Corridors.
Is there anyone I should be listening to?
