Beginning a new feature, I’ll be doing a round-up of the last week’s Marvel news! Featuring… This week’s releases; The Marvel cinematic universe; The other cinematic universes; Marvel games; and Spoilers!
This week’s releases
This week’s releases in Marvel featured a fun mix, with Inhumanity taking centre-stage. Inhumanity: Awakening #1 is an interesting concept, featuring a handful of the next-generation characters – Quentin Quire, Pixie, Striker, and Finesse. It’s essentially a follow-on from the rather weak Infinity: The Hunt, with some interesting, but not always well-handled, elements. Marvel are releasing .INH issues of some other series, including Avengers A.I., Mighty Avengers, and Uncanny X-Men. None of them have particularly drawn me in, but then the whole Inhumanity premise seems rather too similar to the ‘mutant’ motif that’s central in the X-books, and so I don’t have a massive interest.
Other stand-outs include a couple of tie-ins to the Cataclysm event that looks to be the end of the Ultimate Universe, a continuation of the Captain-America-and-Cyclops team-up in A+X #15, and the first team-up between Cyclops and Wolverine since Schism in Wolverine and the X-Men #39. As Jason Aaron’s run on WatXM is coming to an end, it’s intriguing to see if repairing some of the damage from Schism is high on his agenda.
