Week of Marvels 03/01/2015

Happy New Year, folks!  Week of Marvels took a Christmas break, but now we’re back, giving you the lowdown on what’s up-and-coming for the Marvel Universe!

This week in Marvel Comics

This week was a slow one for Marvel, who wisely scheduled only one release for New Year’s Eve – the first issue of S.H.I.E.L.D., pitting S.H.I.E.L.D. against a rogue Asgardian – well, sort of.  It’s actually pretty decent, and gives us an idea of the role Phil ‘fanboy’ Coulson will play in the Marvel Universe going forward.

That said, most sites have dedicated themselves to discussing the best of 2014 – and looking forward to what’s coming (*cough*Secret Wars*cough*).  Here are the best:

In other news, merchandise related to Hawkeye has just earned over $2,000 for a domestic violence charity.  I love when the comic book community shows some heart.  And, one guy got an Iron Man helmet for Christmas – check out this brilliant video!

Thanks to her work in Breaking Bad and The B in Apt 23, I cannot see Krystin Ritter playing Jessica Jones. I’m hoping that she proves me wrong.

Speaking of Jessica’s. It’s about damn time Drew got a new consume. Carol has gone through a couple, yet Spider-Woman’s stayed the same. It kinda just looks like a revamp of her old, but I aint complaining

    1. I gotta admit, I’m not persuaded for Krystin Ritter’s Jessica Jones either. That being said, Marvel seem to play it smart, so I’ll trust them until they prove me wrong :p

Lloyd, I agree. i’m not sure Ritter is the right choice. And you’re soooo right. Spiderwoman has been in need of a new costume for a long time.

    1. It’s odd, sometimes a costume just ‘works’ for a character. And yet, I’ve never felt Jessica’s expressed what the character was supposed to be about, but she never changed costume–!

Also, Grant Ward as Taskmaster is actually quite genius. He was a slow burn character in season 1 and by the time it got to his “Turn” I actually really liked him. I had fears they would soften the blow by making it mind control and make him a hero again, but I always thought if he was gonna turn he needed to stay a villain.

    1. I think he’s become a tremendously potent villain – couldn’t believe when Skye shot him in the back lol!

Yeah, I think this show has a way of taking some instances and defying expectations. My wife and I are watching season 1 right now (her for the first time and it’s crazy how many little things are foreshadowed.
