Marvel Studios VP of Production & Development Nate Moore says that principal photography on upcoming Disney+ series Ironheart is drawing to a close.

Marvel Studios VP of Production & Development Nate Moore recently confirmed that Ironheart is close to wrapping filming.

Moore’s update on the upcoming Disney+ series’ progress came during an interview with Collider. “It’s nearly complete,” he said. “I think they might be on their second to last day, if I’m not mistaken.” Ironheart stars Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams, a brilliant MIT student who invents a powered exoskeleton inspired by Tony Stark’s Iron Man armor. Williams will make her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut before Ironheart debuts on Disney+ in 2023, as a supporting character in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

Moore discussed the design of Riri Williams’ Ironheart armor in an earlier interview, noting that it was meant to reflect the more modest resources at the young inventor’s disposal. He added that the Ironheart hardware also has a “Detroit Motor City” vibe, which further distinguishes Riri’s suit from those worn by Tony Stark. “You get the feeling that it’s like a muscle car as a suit, which we thought was interesting — and also contrasts really well with Dominique’s size, because she’s such a small person but has such a powerful personality — that the suit is kind of big and clunkier than Tony’s suit because that’s how she would’ve built it,” Moore said.

Will Ironheart Introduce the MCU’s Mephisto?

While Williams will put the Ironheart armor to good use fighting on Wakanda’s behalf in the Black Panther sequel, there’s no word yet on whether the East African nation will return the favor in Ironheart. At present, Williams’ only confirmed allies in the Disney+ series are her unnamed best friend and Parker Robbins/The Hood, portrayed by Lyric Ross and Anthony Ramos, respectively. An unofficial Ironheart set photo recently surfaced online that shows Ramos in costume as The Hood, complete with the signature red cloak the character wears in the comics.

Williams will need all the help she can get if recent reports regarding Ironheart‘s villain turn out to be true. According to an unnamed source close to the production, Riri Williams will go head-to-head with the MCU version of Mephisto in the upcoming series. This same insider also claims that Borat star Sacha Baron Cohen is locked in to portray the demonic supervillain, and has even been spotted at Pinewood Studios where Ironheart is being filmed.

Ironheart is set to premiere on Disney+ in late 2023 and will run for six episodes.
