Winter is Coming to the digital world as Game of Thrones fans will have the chance to recreate the HBO show’s crowning moments thanks to a newly-announced collaboration.
As reported by Medium, a joint initiative between Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products and NFT marketplace, Nifty’s, allows enthusiasts of Game of Thrones to enter the franchise’s realm through various digital collectables and experiences. Dubbed Game of Thrones: Build Your Realm, the NFT-based program will be rolled out in late 2022.
Jeff Marsilio, the CEO and co-founder of Nifty’s, stated, “Every so often, a film or television series comes along that pushes the boundaries of its genre so far, it forever changes the creative landscape, becoming a part of our collective cultural identity. Game of Thrones is that series for this generation,” Marsilio said. “Nifty’s is thrilled to be working alongside Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products to keep pushing the bounds of creativity and imagination, through a new kind of digital collectable that will allow fans of the franchise to connect in ways they never have before.”
Game of Thrones: Build Your Realm lets fans create different collections through avatars, on-site engagement, thematic activities and other digital collectibles. The collectables will be in assorted packs, coming in weapons, gear and companions that can be forged or burned. By doing so, fans can boost their avatar. Additionally, Game of Thrones lovers can access iconic characters, locations and moments from the long-running franchise. Software company and NFT project specialists, Daz 3D, will help orchestrate the design, development and production of the soon-to-be-unveiled program.
Warner Bros. Offers Many Experiences for Fans
This isn’t the first time that Game of Thrones has been immortalized in non-fungible tokens as toy company, Funko, has its own official NFT collection based on the franchise. Warner Bros’ Discovery teamed with Funko in March 2022 to extend digital collectables to fans of beloved characters like Scooby-Doo and Batman. In October 2022, Warner Bros. Discovery teamed up with Eluvio to create a web3 movie experience for The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring featuring NFT versions of the 2001 fantasy adventure film.
News of the new Game of Thrones initiative comes as Warner Bros. Discovery’s Q3 results are set to be released on Nov. 3, 2022. The company had a net loss of $3.4 million in Q2 and the NFT partnership could be a revenue generator for the company.
No pricing details have been revealed for the Game of Thrones: Build Your Realm program nor have any specifics about how long the program will run. Nifty’s promised a series of program updates in the coming weeks. In the meantime, fans can stream all eight seasons of Games of Thrones, as well as its prequel, House of the Dragon, on HBO Max.
