How Long to Beat & Complete

  • Share

With its predecessor having released nearly a decade ago, many fans have been looking forward to Bayonetta 3. The dark fantasy action series is incredibly inventive and seductive, with protagonist witch Cereza becoming an iconic anti-heroine since her debut. Now, she returns in the series’ third entry, which is exclusive to the Nintendo Switch.

Given how long the wait has been for the new game, some might wonder how long it takes to beat the main story mode of Bayonetta 3. Even beyond this feature, there are tons of extras to be found and enjoyed, especially compared to previous games in the franchise. Here’s how long it takes to beat the main story mode of Bayonetta 3, as well as to truly beat the game to 100% completion.

How Long It Takes to Beat Bayonetta 3

Bayonetta 3 isn’t a long-winded JPRG, but rather an over-the-top action title in a series with somewhat nonsensical stories. Still, the game’s campaign takes some time to get used to, especially for those who want to play casually or aren’t especially skilled at fast-paced action games. Not counting the prologue, Bayonetta 3‘s story mode has 14 chapters throughout its new multiverse, most of which will vary in length depending on player skill.

With these caveats in mind, it will take most players between 12 and 15 hours to beat the game’s story, though the difficulty selected could also be a huge factor in the rate of progression. This matches how long the stories for the first two games took to beat, keeping the series’ length consistent. Even those who beat it in 10 hours did so while taking time for light exploration, emphasizing that the end of the story is only the beginning. For an action game based around a plot, simply hitting the credits might be enough for some gamers. Conversely, others will want to explore every inch of Bayonetta 3 and its many secrets, which will take a good bit longer to accomplish.

How Long It Takes to Complete Bayonetta 3

While simply beating Bayonetta 3 doesn’t take too long, completing it altogether requires a lot more dedication. There are several items and collectibles to be found in the game, not to mention extra skills that can be added to Cereza’s repertoire. This high level of Halos, Orbs, and other items adds lots of replay value to the title beyond its story’s conclusion, especially for players dedicated to finding every last thing. This brings the game’s completion time up to around 30 to 40 hours, which is also roughly similar to the previous games’ full lengths.

Part of the challenge in beating everything the game throws at the player is unlocking the Infinite Climax difficulty, which greatly reduces which moves Cereza can utilize. For even the most hardened Bayonetta veterans, it’s certain to provide a steep difficulty curve. Thankfully, the story mode’s chapters can be accessed from a list once completed, allowing players to jump into a specific level and begin discovering every Easter egg that it has to offer. Those who’ve been waiting on the game to hit the Switch should check it out now and start the countdown to the credits.
