Russell Dauterman reveals design artwork of the new outfit Wanda Maximoff will wear in Steve Orlando and Sara Pichelli’s Scarlet Witch series.

Marvel Comics artist Russell Dauterman has offered a detailed look at the new costume Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch will wear in her upcoming solo series.

While Wanda’s new outfit is featured prominently on Dauterman’s cover art for Scarlet Witch #1, the artist has now shared a design sheet featuring a turnaround, as well as an up-close look at some of the finer details, such as the shoes and rings. The design sheet also highlights how Wanda’s hair takes on magical properties while she’s using her powers. “Here’s the design I did for Wanda’s new costume — coming in January to the SCARLET WITCH series!” Dauterman tweeted.

The first issue of Marvel’s new Scarlet Witch ongoing series is slated to hit comic shops on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2023. The title comes from the creative team of writer Steve Orlando (Curse of the Man-Thing) and artist Sara Pichelli (Ultimate Spider-Man). Spinning out of the events of X-Men: The Trial of Magneto, the series follows Wanda, who has “pledged all her power to help others who are languishing at their lowest. But when a woman falls through Wanda’s door with a terrifying story of a town gone mad, the Scarlet Witch will have to muster her wits and chaos magic to deal with an insidious threat!”

“Since I first stepped into the House of Ideas, the Scarlet Witch has been with me — in fact, she was the star of my first Marvel work ever, kicking ass, weaving spells, and humbling Doom in Darkhold!” Orlando said when the new series was announced. “So, there was no way I could pass up the chance to work on Scarlet Witch. Wanda Maximoff has finally broken free of the shadows she’s wrestled with for years. And now? Sara Pichelli, Russell Dauterman, and I are unveiling the next chapter of her powerful, improbable, magical life. When you have nowhere else to turn… you turn to the Scarlet Witch. And God help anyone who gets in her way.”

“You have been waiting Scarlet Witch solo return for so long! Finally that time has come and I’m truly honored my art was chosen to make this happen,” Pichelli added. “Can’t wait for you to see the book.”

Written by Steve Orlando and illustrated by Sara Pichelli, Scarlet Witch #1 goes on sale Jan. 4, 2023 from Marvel Comics.
