One Piece Cosplayer Humorously Showcases Zoro’s Poor Sense of Direction

  • Share

It is a well-known fact that Roronoa Zoro has a terrible sense of direction, and a new cosplay celebrates both that character quirk and the release of One Piece Film: Red.

A video of the anime-accurate cosplay shows the cosplayer asking a movie theater worker to point him in the direction of the Film Red screening. However, instead of following the worker’s clear directions, they walk into the wrong theater only to emerge a few seconds later with a clear look of frustration. The video ends with the Zoro-cosplayer wandering off to take a nap.

The 15th film in the One Piece franchise, Film Red premiered in Japan in August and in most Western markets this month. While early versions of the movie featured a prison break narrative focused on saving Bon Kurei from ‘New Impel Down,’ Film Red actually tells a very different story. It sees the Straw Hat Pirates travel to the Island of Music and encounter Luffy’s childhood friend Uta. A gorgeous songstress, she wishes to combat suffering and pain with music; however, while this appears to be a worthwhile goal, her real plan greatly resembles the plots of two of anime/manga’s most iconic villains.

Film Red has proven itself to be a box office juggernaut. Even though its international theatrical run is far from over, the movie had already earned well over 17 billion yen (roughly $122 million), making it Japan’s highest-grossing film of 2022 so far. Moreover, Film Red has secured its place among the country’s highest-earning movies of all time, featuring alongside classics like Ponyo and Spirited Away.

One Piece Beyond the Screen

There have been more recent developments in the One Piece franchise beyond hilarious cosplay and the Western release of Film Red. Notably, clothing company VANS will soon release an apparel line inspired by the pirate series. The collection, which goes on sale on Nov. 11, will feature shoes, t-shirts, hoodies and more. All the items will showcase various pieces of One Piece iconography like the Straw Hats’ Jolly Roger and Wanted Posters.

Furthermore, a new One Piece video game will drop early next year for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S and PC. According to the description, One Piece Odyssey “transports the Straw Hat Crew to a mysterious new island where they embark on quests and fight powerful enemies and massive bosses in exciting turn-based battles.”

One Piece Film: Red tickets are available to purchase on Fandango.
