Some haunts lend themselves to small compact mansions while others allow for a better chance of survival the bigger the setting is.
Omens are a very significant find in any room within the mansion. With the expansion, 21 possible omens can be found within the game. Omens do not always mean misfortune, with many providing powerful abilities to players. Omens can also trigger a haunt, and each haunt will correspond to a specific omen in a room. A haunt will depend on which omen is discovered in which room, with 101 possible haunts for players to experience. Once revealed on a tile, omen icons will cause a player to draw an omen card. A haunt roll must immediately follow an omen being revealed. If the roll is higher than the number of omens, players may continue to explore. However, if the roll fails to beat that number, then the haunt will begin.

Survivors must work together to defeat this new enemy through various means. In some haunts, there is no hope of defeating the new foe, and survivors must find their way out of the maze they have created within the mansion. Others must search the house, finding tools to save or demolish their former ally.
