A new, lifelike Sorting Hat replica moves and talks just like the one in the Harry Potter movies to direct its wearer into one of the Hogwarts houses.
Fans of the Harry Potter franchise can now try out a Sorting Hat which verbally assigns them to a Hogwarts house, just like the one in the movies.
The Electronic Interactive Sorting Hat is a new prop replica from The Noble Collection, a company which creates a variety of exclusive products paying tribute to Harry Potter, The Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones and many other popular fandoms. The Sorting Hat is not only meticulously modeled after the one seen in the Harry Potter movies, but also has an animatronic interactive feature, activated by pulling the tassels that hang down on either side, and can speak several different lines in its gruff voice to the person wearing it.
Customers should be aware that this Sorting Hat can only give its answers randomly, rather than using any kind of external information to select Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Slytherin or Hufflepuff for hopeful Hogwarts students. However, most Harry Potter fans have long since chosen their house based on an online test or personal reflection, while an actual talking hat is a much greater novelty.
Hogwarts and Its Magical Talking Hat
The Sorting Hat is a part of Harry Potter lore introduced early in the book and movie series, when Harry is accepted into Hogwarts and has to be assigned to one of four houses along with all other incoming students. The school’s ceremony involves placing the hat onto each child’s head, one by one, and it analyzes them and then shouts out its decision on which house they’ll join. The source of the Sorting Hat’s power to know where a student belongs is never revealed, but when Harry wears it, he’s able to converse with it and request to be put into Gryffindor rather than Slytherin, the house with a reputation for turning out evil wizards.
In the Harry Potter movie adaptations, the Sorting Hat was voiced by British comedian and actor Leslie Phillips, who recently passed away at the age of 98. With a career spanning over eight decades, Phillips played the part of the Sorting Hat in several Harry Potter movies including The Philosopher’s Stone and The Deathly Hallows – Part 2.
The Electronic Interactive Sorting Hat is available for purchase on The Noble Collection’s official website. The item has a price tag of $59.00, with batteries included.
