The great thing about a creature feature movie is that it’s often grounded in real threats that any viewer could plausibly encounter.

The genre typically turns out new hits on an annual basis, including many beloved B-movies. While the sillier side of the subgenre has entertainment value, there have been some truly great creature features. The force-of-nature aspect of horror will always land with fans.

10/10 Anaconda Was Ridiculous And Over-The-Top Fun

Widely known for its over-the-top and silly nature, Anaconda was one of Jennifer Lopez’s most memorable films – albeit for the wrong reasons. Beloved by its cult following for its poor effects, questionable acting, and all-out creature feature fun, Anaconda is well worth a watch.

With Ice Cube and Jon Voight featuring, Anaconda follows the crew of a small boat who are attacked by an enormous anaconda lurking in the Amazon rainforest. When a determined hunter takes them hostage, he forces the crew to push deeper into the forest to bring him to his prey.

9/10 Alligator Explored The Urban Legend Of A Giant Reptile On The Loose

Taking the Jaws concept to the streets, Alligator (starring Robert Forster) followed a giant-sized alligator years after it had been flushed away. After consuming lab animals for his entire life, Ramon the alligator grows to a gigantic size and escapes the sewers. Once Ramon is on land again, he attacks everyone in his path.

7/10 Rogue Had A Boat Tour Hunted By A Giant Crocodile

Set in Australia, Rogue follows a group of tourists who take a boat trip along a river that’s known for its high number of crocodiles. The group includes a travel journalist, Pete, and a tough local guide named Kate. As is inevitable with the best creature features, the boat is soon set upon by a giant, man-eating crocodile.

As the crocodile begins to slowly work its way through the small group, the passengers find themselves trapped on a small river bank with no means of escape. The group soon comes to realize that their best bet for survival is to go straight through their reptilian hunter. Rogue boasts incredible special effects, for which it earned several AACTA awards, and a fun story.

6/10 Deep Blue Sea Saw People Hunted By Intelligent Sharks

Set on a deep sea research station that houses intelligent sharks, Deep Blue Sea followed the survival of a group of people who were trapped in the facility. After an attack and failed rescue operation, the station is slowly flooded with water and relentless sharks, which start killing the survivors.

As the human and shark populations slowly dwindle in the fierce fight between the two, the survivors have to use increasingly creative methods to kill the beasts. By the end of Deep Blue Sea, the handful of surviving characters have to make a daring push to the surface. A great shark attack movie, Deep Blue Sea offers a tense, silly adventure.

Introducing the world to Vin Diesel’s iconic character Riddick, Pitch Black begins with a transport starship being damaged by asteroids, which forces it to land.
