South Koreas authorities charge Squid Game star Oh Yeong-su with sexual misconduct as the actor denies the allegations leveled at him.
Squid Game star Oh Young Soo has been indicted for sexual misconduct and harassment.
Per Korea JoongAng Daily, the actor was charged by the Seongnam Branch of the Suwon District Prosecutor’s Office and is accused of “inappropriately touching” an unnamed woman in 2017. Throughout the investigation, Oh has denied all the allegations leveled against him. His translated statement reads, “I just held her hand to guide the way around the lake. I apologized because [the person] said she wouldn’t make a fuss about it but it doesn’t mean that I admit the charges.” The prosecution stated that it has obtained evidence of harassment against the victim and will be taking the case to trial.
The report stated that the case was originally brought to authorities in December 2021 before being shut in April 2022 without any charges being filed. Following an appeal by the victim, the accusations are now being investigated again. It remains unclear whether Oh will appear in court and, if so, when the trial will take place.
Oh is a renowned South Korean actor who is widely-recognize for his stage and theater work. He has appeared in a handful of films including The Great Queen Seondeok, A Little Monk and Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter… and Spring. His breakout role was as Player No. 1, otherwise known as Oh Il-Nam, in Netflix’s Squid Game for which we won a Golden Globe in January 2022.
