Behind-the-scenes photos from The Acolyte showcase a set that bears a striking similarity to a key location in another Star Wars show, Andor.
New photos from The Acolyte set recently surfaced online that seemingly reveal Andor‘s influence on one of the upcoming Star Wars show’s locations.
The unofficial behind-the-scenes snaps come courtesy of Bespin Bulletin. They show what appears to be the same gritty town environment featured in the outlet’s previous batch of Acolyte set photos, only in a more complete state. Notably, the ground of the outdoor set is now covered in red sand or dirt, and the surrounding walls are fully painted, primarily in blue. As Bespin Bulletin notes, the addition of red sand to the Acolyte set evokes the similarly hued rocky terrain of key Andor location Ferrix. Lucasfilm has not publicly commented on the set photos, which means that any direct connection between the two Disney+ Star Wars shows should be treated as pure speculation for now.
Lucasfilm’s silence regarding the potential link between The Acolyte and Andor is hardly surprising, given the studio has only recently started ramping up its promotion of the series. These efforts have included the circulation of an official synopsis of The Acolyte‘s premise, which confirms that the show follows “a former Padawan [who] reunites with her Jedi Master to investigate a series of crimes.” The synopsis also confirms that the show is set during the “final days” of the High Republic era, a time when “dark side powers” return to threaten the galaxy once more.
The Acolyte Star Confirms the Sith’s Involvement
Star Dafne Keen expanded on Lucasfilm’s official synopsis in a recent interview, divulging that The Acolyte will revolve around the Sith Order. “I mean, as you know, it’s set 100 years before the prequel movies, and it’s kind of an explanation of how the Sith infiltrated the Jedi,” Keen said. “It’s a Sith-led story, which has never been done before. It’s been really fun to film — the cast is amazing, and the director and crew are just lovely. The whole experience is wonderful, and I’m already excited for people to see it.”
Keen’s involvement in the production was announced in November 2022. The Logan and His Dark Materials star was named as part of The Acolyte‘s cast alongside The Matrix‘s Carrie-Anne Moss. The pair join an acting ensemble headed up by Amandla Stenberg (The Hate U Give) and Lee Jung-jae (Squid Game) that also includes Jodie Turner-Smith (Queen & Slim), Rebecca Henderson (Inventing Anna), Charlie Barnett (Russian Doll) and Dean-Charles Chapman (1917).
The Acolyte does not yet have a release date.
