An upcoming isekai manga with a retribution plot revolving around mothers shocks and confuses anime fans with its unusual subject matter.
An upcoming isekai manga puts a controversial twist on the genre’s standard premise.
Initially reported by Anime Senpai, the title of this upcoming manga roughly translates to Everything Was Taken Away By the Hero So I formed a Party With the Hero’s Mother. Based on the isekai light novel series of the same name, this manga has an exiled party member take revenge on the leader and the other members by forming his own party with all of their mothers. A Twitter account called @AniNewsAndFacts spotlighted the series with an alternate translation of the title that highlights the fact that the main character purchases these women from a slave market. Many responses in the post’s comment sections expressed either disbelief, confusion or outright disgust with the series’ premise.
The manga’s plot begins in a similar fashion to many other isekai stories. The main character, living as a 42-year-old man in the real world, dies and is reincarnated as an infant in a sword-and-sorcery-style fantasy realm. When he turns 14, Ceres joins up with a party of heroes led by a man named Zect. After Zect becomes involved with Ceres’ girlfriend, he convinces the other party members to cast Ceres out on the grounds that his magical swordsmanship is useless to the party.
The Main Character Is Driven by Revenge
Now alone with nowhere to go, Ceres develops a strong desire for revenge and concocts a scheme made possible by the bizarre social mechanics of this world. Since the average life expectancy is 50 years old, women above 17 years of age are considered old and are often cast aside in favor of younger women. Apparently, this even happened with Zect’s mother. Ceres creates his own party with the mothers of each of his former party members, hoping that his new team will become an endless source of torment for the members of his old one, including Zect.
This Manga Is Different From Other Isekai
While isekai stories commonly feature harems of young women teaming up with the main hero, there are series that deviate from this setup. Two popular examples include That Time I Got Reincarnated As a Slime and Trapped in a Dating Sim: The World of Otome Games is Tough for Mobs. The former started out as a light novel series written by Fuse with illustrations by Mitz Vah. 8 bit later adapted the novels into an anime series. On Nov. 25, 2022, a film adaptation titled That Time I Got Reincarnated As a Slime: Scarlet Bond had its Japanese theatrical debut. Written by Yomu Mishima with illustrations by Monda, the Trapped in a Dating Sim light novel series was also adapted into an anime series, which aired from April to June 2022.
The release window for Everything Was Taken Away By the Hero So I formed a Party With the Hero’s Mother is unknown at the time of this article’s writing.
