After receiving some powerful crystals from another planet, Iron Man wants to create a shield strong enough to keep gods out in All-Out Avengers #4.
The following contains spoilers for All-Out Avengers #4, on sale now from Marvel Comics.
Tony Stark/Iron Man wants to build a shield strong enough to protect the planet from gods in All-Out Avengers #4.
All-Out Avengers #4 comes from writer Derek Landy, penciler Greg Land, inker Jay Leisten, colorist Frank D’Armata and letterer VC’s Cory Petit. At the start of the issue, Captain Marvel/Carol Danvers, Black Widow/Natasha Romanoff, Hawkeye/Clint Barton and Spider-Woman/Jessica Drew all find themselves trapped on an alien planet that has its very own version of Star Wars‘ Sarlaac pit. The heroes eventually manage to escape the planet with a handful of crystals with ultra-powerful abilities.
Upon returning to Avengers Mountain, Tony gets his hands on the crystals and immediately begins playing with them. “Those crystals you brought back are astonishing,” he comments. “With a little work, we can integrate them into the Planetary Defense Shield — make it stronger.” Black Widow points out the Planetary Defense Shield is already supposed to be impenetrable; however, Tony believes there are ways even it can be improved. “It’ll be even more impenetrable,” he says. “With these crystals, it’ll hold back gods.” The end of the issue reveals a godly being may very well be making its way to Earth, as a new villain named the Emissary kneels down in front of a giant, armored figure, meaning Tony’s new shield could soon be put to the test.
All-Out Avengers Is Building Toward a Massive Battle With the Beyonder
Each issue of All-Out Avengers has dropped Earth’s Mightiest Heroes into the middle of an ongoing battle or adventure. The heroes have gradually come to learn these events are being manipulated by some outside party for reasons that remain to be seen. While Thor, Iron Man, Captain Marvel and others will have to fight against Spider-Man in All-Out Avengers #5 (which releases Jan. 25, 2023), the Avengers will soon go face-to-face-with the Beyonder in Avengers Beyond, a five-issue miniseries spinning out of All-Out Avengers from Landy and Land.
Releasing in March 2023, the synopsis for the series’ first issue reads, “Someone has been manipulating the Avengers for the past several months, altering the very fabric of reality in an attempt to prepare the planet for a threat that could destroy everything. Here, now, this unseen individual is to be dragged, kicking and screaming, from the shadows and into the light – and is revealed as the Beyonder! Something big is coming to the Marvel Universe…”
