Marvel Studios’ Agatha: Coven of Chaos casts That ’70s Show alum Debra Jo Rupp, who will presumably reprise her role from WandaVision.
WandaVision alum Debra Jo Rupp is set to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the Disney+ series’ upcoming spinoff, Agatha: Coven of Chaos.
According to Deadline, Rupp has joined the cast of Coven of Chaos, which will premiere on Disney+ as part of Phase Five of the MCU. While details regarding Rupp’s character are being kept under wraps for the time being, it seems safe to assume that she will reprise her role as Mrs. Hart, whom she played in five episodes of WandaVision. Rupp is perhaps best known for her role as Kitty Forman on the 1998-2006 Fox sitcom That ’70s Show — a role she will soon reprise for the Netflix sequel series That ’90s Show, which is slated to premiere later this month.
Coven of Chaos is led by Kathryn Hahn, who reprises her role as Agatha Harkness from Marvel Studios’ WandaVision. In addition to Rupp seemingly reprising her role as Mrs. Hart, fellow WandaVision alum Emma Caulfield Ford is said to be reprising her role as Dottie. The spinoff’s cast also includes a number of MCU newcomers, including male lead Joe Locke, as well as Aubrey Plaza, Ali Ahn, Maria Dizzia, Sasheer Zamata and Patti LuPone.
WandaVision Was Key to the MCU’s Future
Starring Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch and Vision, respectively, WandaVision premiered on Disney+ in January 2021 to kick off Phase Four of the MCU. The events of the series led directly into the Phase Four film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which hit theaters in May 2022 and saw Olsen’s Wanda — a former Avenger — serve as the main antagonist before seemingly meeting her demise.
In October 2021, it was reported that a WandaVision spinoff series focusing on Hahn’s Agatha Harkness was in the works for Disney+. The following month, Marvel Studios officially announced the series under the title Agatha: House of Harkness. At San Diego Comic-Con 2022, the show’s subtitle was revealed to have been changed to Coven of Chaos. It was also at the event that Marvel chief Kevin Feige confirmed that Agatha’s spinoff was slated to premiere on Disney+ in late 2023/early 2024 as part of the studio’s Phase Five lineup.
Of course, Coven of Chaos isn’t the only WandaVision spinoff series Marvel Studios is currently developing. In October 2022, it was confirmed that a Disney+ series focusing on Bettany’s Vision, titled Vision Quest, was also in the works. Both Coven of Chaos and Vision Quest are being overseen by WandaVision creator Jac Schaeffer, though the latter project does not currently have a premiere window.
Marvel Studios’ Agatha: Coven of Chaos is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ in late 2023/early 2024.
