Tom Cruise Soars High in the Top Gun Sequel

Top Gun: Maverick became the latest Tom Cruise movie to make considerable box-office earnings, generating over $1.48 billion in ticket sales and becoming the highest-grossing 2022 film for several months until it was overtaken by James Cameron’s Avatar: The Way of Water. Also starring Val Kilmer, Miles Teller and Jennifer Connelly, Maverick was a sequel to the original 1986 film Top Gun, which also starred Cruise in one of his first breakout roles in Hollywood. The sequel outdid the original critically and commercially, scoring a pair of nominations at this month’s Golden Globes.

Cruise also stars in the Mission Impossible franchise, including its next two installments, Dead Reckoning Part One and Dead Reckoning Part Two, which are scheduled for release in 2023 and 2024 respectively.
