DAWN OF DC continues with TITANS, GREEN LANTERN, and CYBORG

DC has announced a number of new creative teams for its Dawn of DC initiative, which started in earnest yesterday with Action Comics #1051. The titles include Titans from Tom Taylor and Nicola ScottGreen Lantern from Jeremy Adams and Xermánico, and Cyborg from Morgan Hampton and Tom Raney

Green Lantern kicks off this latest run of new titles in May, straight from the team of Adams and Xermánico, who replace the previously announced Mariko Tamiki and a TBD artist. DC had this to say about the book:

The visionary team of Jeremy Adams and Xermánico (Flashpoint Beyond) present a tale of redemption, loss, and finding out that maybe you can go home again, in Green Lantern. Spinning out of the events of Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths, the Guardians of Oa at the heart of the Green Lantern Corps have quarantined Sector 2814, home of the planet Earth—and its champion along with it! A heartbreaking defeat has sent Hal reeling, returning home to rediscover his roots…and find the man responsible for ruining his life: Sinestro. At least if he’s willing to hot-wire a power ring to do it.

Notably, the previously announced Green Lantern: John Stewart series will become a backup here, as part one of ‘The Good Soldier’ will be written by Phillip Kennedy Johnson with art by Osvaldo Montos. Issue one will be released on May 9th.

Titans continues this new wave of Dawn of DC, with a new number one from Taylor and Scott launching in May 2023. The book seems to continue the storyline begun by Taylor in his Nightwing series, specifically the Titans-centric arc set in Blüdhaven he’s about to begin with Travis Moore. DC had this to say about the launch:

The Dark Crisis is over and the Justice League is no more. Now, a new team has to rise and protect the earth…TITANS! The time has come for the Teen Titans to grow up. Each member joined as a much younger hero certain that one day they’d be invited to join the Justice League. Now they’re not just joining the League…they’re replacing it! Are the no-longer-teen heroes ready for the big leagues? Danger lurks around every corner as Super Heroes and Super-Villains alike challenge the new team before they’ve even begun. Will the DCU ever be the same? Find out in this landmark first issue available on May 16!

Lastly, Cyborg #1 launches May 16th from Hampton and Raney. Hampton was a participant in the Milestone Talent Development Program, and this will be his first title from DC outside of DC Power: A Celebration. It’s exciting to see the Milestone program working so well and the return of Cyborg to his own title:

When a family emergency brings Cyborg back home to Detroit, Victor Stone surprisingly finds himself enjoying returning to the simpler life–where everybody sees him for who he really is and always was, rather than a larger-than-life superhero. It’s been a while since Vic’s been able to lower his guard and seek a purpose outside of being Cyborg 24/7. But a lot has changed in Detroit while Victor’s been away. An aggressive new company is turning the Motor City into an overclocked engine for revolutionary artificial intelligence…and no one knows better than Cyborg that technological transformation always comes at a steep human price! Fans can also get a preview of what’s to come for Cyborg in Hampton’s story in DC Power: A Celebration available on January 31.

In addition to the title announcements, DC also provided an updated timeline for the Dawn of DC, which showcases the complete lineup of titles in this new initiative.

This looks great, however, with a closer look, there are a number of other unannounced titles included…. let’s brighten the image a tad with Stately Beat Manor’s high-tech computers:

Computer, er, zoom and enhance

While this isn’t the prettiest looking picture now, we can clearly see a Wonder Woman and a Hawkman logo poking through the picture, along with two new logos we haven’t seen before. The first seems to insinuate a title called ‘Knight Terrors,’ which sounds pretty close to a Batman centric event. The second looks like a tease for ‘The Return of the Justice League,’ and sounds like we’ll be getting a fresh new Justice League title late in the year. All of this is set over what appears to be Brainiac and his tentacles, implying that he’ll be the big bad for the upcoming year.
